France - nantes
Born in 1976 in Vevey, Switzerland, but living in Nantes, France, JINKS KUNST is a Franco-Swiss street artist. His teenage years was marked by hip-hop and skateboard culture. Magazines, fanzines and record sleeves led him to discover graffiti and illustrations of artists such as Lazoo and Mode 2. He first tried graffiti lettering, but over the years his practice became more multidisciplinary: collages, stickers, paintings, land art, photographs, hijacking of road signs. He is used to working on a large variety of media such as walls, wood, road signs, skateboard decks, vinyl records...
In 2006, he started stenciling which was a real revelation to him, and an all-consuming passion that has never left him. His creations are all handmade. Therefore, and armed with a cutter, he painstakingly carves out life-size works inspired by current affairs, politics, literature, urban culture and animal life. In 2008, he began hijacking road signs in Nantes, such as the other artist Clet Abraham, and then around the world.
Regularly exhibited since the early 2000s, Jinks Kunst has produced hundred stencils and paintings, humorously hijacked over a thousand road signs in 28 countries, customized dozens of skateboards and vinyl records, and created a portrait of Serge Gainsbourg in using 23,000 cigarette filters. Intervening in the street has become a necessity for Jinks Kunst over the years. His stencils, posters, stickers and paintings can be seen on walls and road signs in over 30 countries in Europe, Africa, Asia and South America.
