Portugal - porto
Born in 1981, HAZUL is a Portuguese self-taught artist who was part of the first generation of graffiti writers in the city of Porto. He began in the late 90's and first dedicated himself to the practice and development of lettering for several years before exploring other path such as abstract forms on walls for a renewed artistic expression.
However and from 2008, the artist opts for a new direction, strongly inspired by the iconography of ancient cultures and primitive civilizations. He has then started to explore a more dreamlike and symbolic dimension under the name of Hazul which has since enables him to seek a constant balance between organic and geometric elements.
Since then Hazul has been developing painting on canvas, paper and wood, as well as large format murals and collages in the street. Being a figure with regular presence in the city's public space and with several participations in individual and collective exhibitions.
