Born in 1991, Julien Brouand, aka Abys, is a self-taught French artist from Nancy. Passionate about drawing and cartoons from a young age, he discovered graffiti in 2009 after meeting the artist Suroh, who was studying Applied Arts at the Lycée Henri Loritz.
After several years practicing with various collectives (such as Osmoz-Colors and Nid d'Guêpes Posse), he gradually turned to a more personal work from 2015 onwards. He sets himself apart by creating his own characters that he stages in increasingly lively, narrative and colorful compositions, mixing characters, backgrounds and lettering.
Whether the artist paints delicate female bodies, scary puppeteers or magical animals, Abys always adds a touch of poetry. His paintings are an invitation to travel, taking us on a journey to worlds teeming with strange but colorful characters, both disturbing and touching. He has developed a fantastic bestiary, from the jazz rat to the robber raccoon, which he recomposes on some murals. His artworks on canvas are like fragmented surfaces, each facet revealing a little bit of the artist, who remains elusive.
